Blows out candles: 25th May 1988
Early Life and Education:
Angira is from a Kashmiri Pandit family to Satish and Suchitra Dhar. She has a younger brother Ishan Dhar. Her mother and grandmother were school teachers and she herself loved going to school. Angira joined the prestigious Xavier’s Institute of Communication in Mumbai for a Film and TV course. This was to understand the process as she had no prior training in acting or theatre. Because of her academic family background, it was not easy to boost her to go in a path which has not been walked by any family members. However, prior to complete her diploma, she joined Channel V production house.
The journey from “Behind the Camera” to The Main Lead Role:
While working in Channel V as associate producer, Angira got a lot of offers for daily soaps, but she wanted to learn the technical things more closely. Also, it was not her choice to start her career from ‘saas-bahu’ serials. She did a couple of commercials and the one with Cadbury made her charming face appear on the TV. Angira was offered the role of an anchor for UTV Bindaas’s show ‘Beg Borrow Steal‘ that brought her into the limelight. Later she was ‘discovered’ by Shanoo Sharma, the casting director of Yash Raj Films who asked her if she was an actor. Angira, who believed in herself replied that she could be, so it was not a ‘no’ from her. Sharma handed her card and that’s how Angira’s journey with YRF began. So her journey and growth have been quite organic.
Bang Bajaa Baraat and Love Per Square Foot:
Angira gave an audition for Bang Bajaa Baraat while working on behind the scenes and she made it. The dialogues of the hit web-series were written by Permanent Roommates-fame Sumeet Vyas. The audition was 3-hour long. The role of feisty and beautiful Shahana suited her pretty much naturally. The show is released in 2015 and till now has been celebrated by the OTT audience. Her chemistry with Ali Fazal is a treat to watch.
On the other hand, Love Per Square Foot is released on Netflix during the eve of Valentine’s day in 2018. Here Angira plays the character of Kareena D’Souza, an independent woman who dreams to buy her own home in the city of Mumbai. Her pairing with Vicky Kaushal looks quite cute and appropriate. The show gained massive visibility.
Upcoming: Angira bagged a role in Commando 3 starring Vidyut Jamwaal. Director Anurag Kashyap is heard of doing an international project, Talagh where Angira and an Iranian actress are the main cast. It is based on a true story and will be shot in Asia and Europe.
